WHAT IS C02e?

The average Canadian directly produces 14,200 kg CO2e every year.

Throughout the Pledge and our website, you’ll see the term "CO2e" used often. CO2e (carbon dioxide equivalent) is used to calculate the warming effect of all greenhouse gases causing the climate crisis. Carbon dioxide (CO2) is the most common and well known of these gases, but there are many others. Methane, for example, causes 84 times more warming per kilogram emitted than CO2.

CO2e expresses the combined warming of all greenhouse gases in terms of an equivalent warming in CO2, resulting in one number.
